Brake Pads – FAQs

Quick answers about brake bedding, compound selection, and wear issues

How do I bed the brake pads correctly on the kart stand?
To bed the pads on a stand, spin the rear axle using a drill and apply light pressure on the brake pedal for 10–15 seconds. Release, let the disc cool for 30 seconds, then repeat 3–4 times. This ensures the pad surface mates properly to the disc, reducing glazing and improving initial bite.
What compound would you recommend for me?
It depends on your driving style, track surface, and conditions:

Soft compound: More initial bite and stopping power. Ideal for cold tracks or short stints.

Medium compound: Balanced performance and durability. Great all-round choice.

Hard compound: Less fade on long runs, better in hotter climates.

Still unsure? Message us your class, track, and kart, and we’ll recommend the best option.
Why are my pads wearing unevenly or faster than expected?
This is usually due to an unaligned caliper, worn disc, or improper bedding. Check caliper symmetry and ensure the disc isn’t warped. If the pads weren’t bedded properly, they can glaze or wear abnormally fast. Always bed-in and inspect components regularly to maximize lifespan.
